“ | Our lives are like little bébé crows carried upon a curious wind. And all we can wish, for our families, for those we love, is that that wind will eventually place us on solid ground. | ” |
— Moira Rose |
Season Six (also branded as The Final Season) is the sixth and final season of the CBC/Pop's Schitt's Creek. It was announced on March 21, 2019.
Season Six premiered on January 7, 2020 (CBC/Pop) with "Smoke Signals", and ended with "Happy Ending" on April 7, 2020 (CBC/Pop).
Overview
In Season Six, the Roses are achieving success in their careers and personal lives, forcing them all to contemplate their inevitable next steps. But as their pursuits push them closer towards their long-awaited escape, the Roses see how connected their lives have become to the town and its residents. When they finally face the decision to stay or leave, it is much harder than expected.
Johnny takes on a second motel, but as the costs pile up, he worries it may have been a huge mistake. Meanwhile, Moira’s Crows movie has thrust her back into the limelight, but when she passes on a major opportunity, she fears she’s lost it all (again). With a wedding in sight, David throws all of his energy into the planning, but when he and Patrick clash on their vision of their future together, David is forced to confront the fact that marriage is more than a wedding. Alexis focuses on her publicity work while Ted is in the Galapagos, and, much to her surprise, her career begins to take off.

Reception and release
Critical response
The sixth season of Schitt's Creek received acclaim from critics. It holds an approval rating of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. The consensus reads: "Witty, warm, and with just the right blend of wisdom and wisecracks, Schitt's Creek's final season is the perfect farewell to the Roses and the town that changed their lives." On Metacritic, the final season has a score of 94 out of 100, based on 4 critics, indicating "universal acclaim". Bridget Read of Vogue wrote that while the series "started off with typical fish out of water scenarios," it has "fully come into its own, with a whole cast of Twin Peaks-meets-Christopher-Guest-universe characters that are as equally endearing".
Awards and nominations
In 2020, the sixth and final season was nominated for 15 Primetime Emmy Awards. During the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards, the show became the first ever comedy or drama series to sweep the four acting categories (Outstanding Lead Actor, Outstanding Lead Actress, Outstanding Supporting Actor, Outstanding Supporting Actress) and one of only four live action shows, along with All in the Family, The Golden Girls, and Will & Grace where all the principal actors have won at least one Emmy Award. In 2021, it won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.
Release
The first five seasons of the series maintained staggered premieres, with new episodes debuting in Canada before being broadcast in the United States. This changed for this season, with new episodes being broadcast simultaneously in Canada and the United States. The series finale aired on April 7, 2020, at 8:00 pm ET; it was followed by a one-hour behind-the-scenes retrospective documentary titled Best Wishes, Warmest Regards: A Schitt's Creek Farewell. In the United States, the series finale was Schitt's Creek's highest-rated episode ever and simulcast on Logo TV and Comedy Central, which had recently become sibling networks to Pop TV through the ViacomCBS merger.
